About Us

The Frongoch area is brewing with history! In 1897 a whiskey factory was established by R.J. Lloyd Price, whiskey which was created with the peaty water from the Tryweryn river adjacent to our school. After the factory closed, unexpected visitors from Germany arrivedfollowed by Irish visitors. The whiskey factory was turned into a war jail. In 1916 the Irish had been fighting for freedom in Dublin before being arrested and sent over to war camps all over Britain. Many of these were sent to Frongoch. There were two camps, the north camp was situated in the field across the road from the school and the south is where we are situated today!
